Post and Panel

Shortly after the end of WWII a number of firms started to make domestic garages utilising concrete posts with concrete panels clipped between the posts. If you require parts for, or repairs to, this type of building first check the panel width, which is normally 1.16M, and the distance between the fixing bolts from one post to the next, which should be 1.22M. The height of the panel is not so important when we carry out a repair or replacement as we can adjust the height in manufacture in most cases. In the Post and Panel range there are two variants, one clipped as mentioned earlier, the other uses panels that slide or slip down between “H” section posts.

Clipped panel types are the most commonplace and are identified by the bolt heads showing in the middle of the posts.

Slide down types have no bolt heads showing in the posts.

And now by System

System L

System L battery garage (for Leofric) started life as a Banbury Garage. When Banbury split into Compton and Leofric, Compton dropped Battery Garages but Leofric continued with the product. That is why we can still supply parts, fifty or so years later. The main difference between System L and System E is that the System L is built from the rear corners forward whereas System E relies on posts sunk into the concrete base and then built backwards.

System L battery garage is simple. However the original lintel and front gutter design used a metal section, largely hand made. Today we would replace the fronts with System X components.

However in some cases re-manufacturing the metal box is more desirable as it matches adjoining garages as shown below.

System R

System R has a Post and Panel shell with front lintels formed in very heavy concrete poorly fixed to concrete posts. We replace both of these components with parts from our LX System manufactured from extruded aluminum which is powder coated for infinite life.
